In December I was invited to photograph the baptism of a friend's sister-in-law. I agreed thinking it would be a good opportunity to test my skills with human subjects rather than non-moving landscapes. I learned a thing or two about developing photos with this shoot and what I do and don't particularly excel at.
What I was not expecting was a huge family photo with lots of kids of varying ages. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get all kids looking the same direction at the same moment? Let me tell you, next to impossible.
Alas I digress. This is the result of the shoot. Enjoy, leave comments, I am open to constructive criticism!
Kim the Fotog, nice going. My two favorites were the first two of the series. I like the cool oval effect on the first shot (camera setting or editing?). Hope you're not expecting some helpful constructive comments or hints from me about people shots, because that is the hardest thing in the world for me (personally). It takes a million shots for me to get it right, if I even get to that point before giving up. You hit the nail on the head when it comes to group shots. I'm coming to the conclusion that all natural instead of posed shots are the best. You did a good job capturing the kids personalities and smiles. Stinkin' cute kids for subjects. What a fun first "assignment" for you! Can't wait to see what your next job will be. Thanks for the FB tip about your new post.
ReplyDeleteKrista,
ReplyDeleteThe oval effect is called a vignette and it's an editing feature in Lightroom. Same thing with the black and white effect. Although honestly I was looking for sepia, but wasn't able to figure it out just yet.
Thanks for the comments!
